Breakfast Session – The Past and Future Direction of U.S. Trade Policy
Ever since the founding of the United States, the country’s economic strength has come from its exports, particularly agricultural exports. Through the years, U.S. trade policy has zigzagged - at times as protectionist, other times by opening doors through trade agreements. Over the past three Administrations the swings in trade policy have been significant – from market-opening negotiations of the TransPacific Partnership – to trade wars with some of our largest trading partners. But are the trade policies of the two major political parties very different from each other? Attendees will discuss an overview of U.S. trade policy over the past decade, and examine where it is heading in the future.
